Entry Level Electrical and Mechanical Engineer

DJM Technology Management, Inc. was established in 1995 by Daniel J. McGrath. Doing business as Technology Management, Inc. or TMI, we are a small architectural and engineering firm that specializes in the design and project management of data centers and other mission critical facilities. Located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, TMI is currently comprised of 12 architects, electrical engineers, project managers, and support personnel. We work in a relaxed atmosphere, with fairly flexible office hours and comparable benefits for a small company. Because we are small, every employee has the opportunity to use their skillsets in whatever path is best suited for them, with the ultimate goal of someday becoming a partner of the firm.

Currently, TMI is looking for an entry level electrical and mechanical engineer. Each position would entail a good amount of CAD work assisting senior engineers or others in the production of conceptual or construction type blueprints. In our business, electrical engineering refers to the design of electrical systems such as generators, 480 volt switchgear, UPS systems, and the distribution of 120/208 volt power through panelboards to computers. Mechanical engineering involves sizing piping for refrigerant or chilled water systems. Data centers are not fancy by nature, but oftentimes projects incorporate office type functions that also require lighting selections and calculations, power distribution to typical office cubicles and support areas, and the sizing of ductwork for general HVAC requirements. Starting salaries would be comparable to other entry level positions in this area.

We are not looking for individuals interested in circuit boards or controls, hydraulics or motor designs.

Individuals interested in these positions would need to be located in or relocate to the Chicagoland area, preferably within a half hour of Rolling Meadows. It is our belief that long commutes are not beneficial to the individual, and so do not work well for the firm either. We perform work throughout the country and sometimes the world, so travel opportunities exist eventually. Individuals must be able to write Word documents well, have good knowledge of other Microsoft programs, and have strong experience and usage in AutoCAD. Most work is done in 2D. An individual who is working towards becoming a PE is an added bonus. Mostly we are looking for someone as interested in us as we are in them, as we would treat your employment here as a partnership with other employees. We are team players.
